What Draws Us Together?
Sometimes questions are better than answers.
Is it our looks?
We each are unique in our looks.
Is it our language?
I personally find other languages fascinating. In fact by studying other languages I learn more about my own.
We could go down a list of possibilities and not find a good answer. If we were talking about planetary objects we might say “gravity.” So what is the interpersonal equivalent to gravity?
Let’s approach the problem another way by asking the opposite question.
What pushes or pulls people apart? What makes us want to separate from someone else?
What quickly comes to my mind as a great answer to this question is the word Selfishness.
It’s the perfect repellent.
When someone is selfish they are obviously not interested in anyone else except perhaps as they might be used or manipulated. And when anyone gets the hint they are being used or manipulated, assuming they have a reasonable self esteem, they will want nothing to do with this narcissist.
Now, perhaps, we can return to the first question and come up with an interesting answer or two.
What draws people together?
Any answers or possibilities come to your mind?
Pondering is a good thing.
