Complaining is like itching after a mosquito bite. The mosquito doesn’t care and it prolongs the itch.
There are certainly times to voice complaints, but often the whiny behavior is more annoying than helpful. In addition, when it works and enables us to get our way, it begins to reinforce a difficult personality trait. It can alter our mood and our perspective on life.
Often, when we are in a complaining mood and fighting with those we have past declared our love and allegiance, it can force an important question.
Would we rather be right or happy?
At first it seems the noble answer is to be right. The problem is that no one is completely right all the time. And no one is completely wrong all the time. Stubborn positions degrade relationships and the possibility for happiness and harmony involve working to resolve conflicts in healthy and mutually beneficial ways. Can all conflicts be resolved? No, but we can seek to be happy and content whether the other decides to cooperate or not.
