In fact, if it were not for our minds, there would be no one living in this physical world capable of appreciating it – and the one hidden behind it.
Perhaps this will be a new thought to some. Perhaps not. But it is one that isn’t particularly obvious. I think it takes a little quiet time to allow it to surface.
God cannot be proved through experimentation. He is best understood through revelation. He must reveal himself. If he does not, he is not detectable.
Ever wonder why this is?
I think it is one of the greatest mysteries of life. Why isn’t God more obvious to people? Why is it that those who believe in God appear to be the foolish ones – when God is said to be almighty? In other words, when we who believe in God appear foolish in the world, it must always be with God’s permission. He permits it – which at first might seem cruel. But God is not cruel. He is the opposite. He is kind.
God permits me to look foolish in talking about believing in him because he is kind to both me and others. He is kind to me because he is developing in me important character traits like the courage to stand for what I believe even when it is unpopular to do so. He is giving me opportunities to work on patience and kindness because I need to learn to treat with respect those who disagree or even mock me. And God is kind to those who do not believe in him because he is not willing to expose them to his mind-breaking raw power (and if God created everything, then his power is greater that the hottest supernova our telescopes can detect).
Therefore, consider this.
God is working through the fragile temporary structures that we all live within. That is the real nature of our brains and bodies, is it not? How many protections must be in place for life to exist, let alone support human beings? We need sunlight, but not too much and not too little. We need oxygen and other components of the atmosphere in a perfect blend. We need just so much gravity. We don’t need a lot of earthquakes and volcanoes either. And the list would go on beyond my ability to imagine, of all the things we need from God for any and every moment of life to even be a thing.
I won’t take away from her conclusion which is interesting, surprising and I believe valid, but I will add something else she did not mention that makes us human.
Language.
It is our ability to connect and share that actually multiplies the neurons available for problem solving.
