We aspire to be better.
To be more.
To be perfect.
And we grieve, struggle, and at times,
when times get really tough,
give up trying.
We then can begin to hate, berate, and even despise ourselves.
Because we have lost — or were never taught — a deeper understanding of what it means to be human, we seek instead to mask over all imperfections.
We are embarrassed by all our foibles and failures.
This makes us easy marks to fall for The Oldest Lie in the Book.
The lie comes in many forms but at its root are these three messages:
You are a mistake.
Your imperfections are the proof.
And it’s all God’s fault.
Or, if you don’t believe in God, it’s the Universe’s fault. Or your parents.
Sadly, the Lie continues, “You aren’t worth fixing.”
Ah, but then the Lie whispers, “There is a way out.”
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
“Worship the computer god.”
“Give it your time, attention, and money and in return it will give you online friends and the ability to turn in good, well written, artistically designed, beautifully performed images of your real-looking public avatar.”
“Since the world is fake, what’s wrong with being a fake yourself?”
“Rules and morality are for sissies.”
The fake you is you without your imperfections.
Our imperfections help us in the humility department.
They curb our lusts for power.
They open our hearts to our fellow imperfect humans.
They teach us to love and trust — things that are illogical enough to differentiate us from computer code.
Our imperfections in the future, as AI rises in its attempt to provide its puppet masters more and more control over our lives, will be our identifying mark helping us differentiate truth from enslaving, addicting, lies.
