The Benefit of People Praying Out Loud Together
Something to learn from the formation of migrating birds.
When it isn’t my turn to pray in a gathering my job is to listen and agree silently.
It’s like flying in formation where the lead bird takes the headwind and everyone else drafts along in the same direction.
Instead of checking out and day dreaming when someone else is praying, I have an opportunity to remain in prayer as well.
In my heart I can say, “Yes, Lord. I agree.” Or “Amen” (which essentially is saying the same thing).
If I don’t agree or don’t know if I agree, then I can pray supporting bullets like these.
Help us see you more clearly Lord.
Bless us Lord.
Thy will, not mine, be done.
Continue blessing us into unity Lord.
Lord, you know our needs and our hearts.
Make me an instrument of your peace.
It doesn’t matter if it is a child who is praying, there is much others can be praying silently in support. This ejects from our hearts the critical fault-finding demon that seems always so eager to complain or correct.
And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.
