Stop It
1. Fighting with friends and loved ones is unhealthy.
2. Don’t buy the idea that arguments must be ended quickly.
3. Handle your disagreements by listening more than speaking. Remember, others are not on your personal inner journey. Cut them a lot of slack.
4. Practice these magic words: “You may have a point.” “You could be right.” “I’m sorry.” “Let me give this some thought.” “Let me collect my thoughts and get back with you shortly.” Use them whenever you begin to feel resentment building inside.
5. If you excused yourself from a disagreement to calm down and collect your thoughts be sure to return to have closure, otherwise you will be building resentment in others.
6. If life has become unmanageable, find yourself a twelve-step recovery program near you, and don’t go with the one you are having the fight with. Let them find their own program.
