Seeing Christianity
Christianity is a worldview for the believer and one of many religions for the unbeliever.
[Jesus speaking to his disciples]
Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says:
“You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive.”
For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.
But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.
Matthew 13:14-16 (ESV)
For those who believe Christianity’s creeds, it is a way to view and make sense of the world. It informs us on how to understand art, science, and who we are as human beings.
CS Lewis put it this way. “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen, not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”
I get it that many have been burned by religion and so steer away from the subject all together.
Allow me to propose another approach.
You may not believe in God. I didn’t for years myself. So approach understanding by what you do understand that still requires faith.
Relationships and love are real and yet invisible just like God. If you want to know more about your own heart and the heart of others then I suggest you learn all you can about the life of the one Christianity is named for.
