We live behind facades.
We make them ourselves and hope others will mistake them for our true selves, who we really are when no one is looking.
They aren’t of course. Not true at all.
It’s because we self-censor to protect our hearts against the embarrassment. In time it even becomes difficult to differentiate truth from fakery inside our own hearts.
Here’s the truth.
We aren’t the fastest, brightest, most talented, nicest people the world has ever encountered.
Of course most aspire to be something better, but usually this isn’t very clear. Many settle to not feel any discomfort whatsoever.
And until we figure ourselves out, we will justify the cover, the shell, the mask, the distance and aloofness.
Learning to see shells may start in seeing them around others, but these are just clues that whatever we can see so easily in others that’s annoying, have probably reached toxic levels in our own hearts.
You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
