We usually think about justice within the context of politics. And for this reason we think that what qualifies someone to be a judge is their political philosophy and perhaps affiliations. In the United States it is about allegiance to the US Constitution.
The purpose of justice in criminal cases is to meet out punishment and punishment results in suffering.
The highest qualification for a judge is not intelligence but experience, but not courtroom experience. It is life experience of a certain type. All these other aspects just mentioned are certainly necessary, but they should be the minimum qualifications for applying for the position.
If I understand the Bible narrative, one day each one of us will stand before a judge. If we look at how this judge became qualified, then I believe the same characteristics should be representing those whose sit in similar positions in courts around the world.
