I thought the pictures of the children on the milk cartons I drank from as a kid were runaways, but according to FBI records, the number of missing children in the US is around 400,000. No way a milk carton campaign would ever solve such an enormous and secretive problem.
To describe it as seeing only the tip of the iceberg is to miss the ratio a thousand fold.
The child trafficking problem is beyond mind-blowing and reflects two sad realities. First, it reveals how truly uninformed I have lived all my life, in spite of all the history, wars, and crime I have been shown through education, books, first person accounts, and the media. The second sad reality goes to the nature and depth of evil we are actually, for the most part, protected from seeing, at least all at once.
I have joked about the Leave-It-To-Beaver, Ozzie-and-Harriet, Father-Knows-Best world of the 1950’s as an innocent time and something to mature out of. Little did most of us know, except the paranoid conspiracy anti-communist nuts, that the immediate post World War 2 era was a time for a few to restructure how best to take down the free world. It would be by infiltration, by letting those sold out to capitalism choke on their own excess until they needed salvation.
This salvation can only come, it seems to me, in one of two polar opposite options. The first would be in the classical It’s-A-Wonderful-Life form where we discover the value of the solitary life as being more precious than all physical stuff of this world, precious enough for a Passion-of-Christ response from our Creator. The alternative is the Darwinian Marxist embrace of power by those least personally interested in any solitary life but their own. It is by a few grabbers of power willing to prove their allegiance to the dark forces behind it all by corrupting, and when necessary or desirable, destroying the most innocent among us. Children to them are play things to be turned toward their own debauchery. Of course, by necessity, it will destroy families. But what are families in a framework without a God and his commands on how best to live?
I went and saw The Sound of Freedom back on the 4th of July.
Of course it is a polarizing film. Hollywood blocked its release for five years.
I have written often up to now about the power of the individual. It seems small and insignificant, that is until the silent majority wakes up. This is the kind of movie that may do just that, assuming you and everyone you can encourage go and see it.
If you have seen it or are hesitant to do so leave a comment below.
If you want to go deeper in this area, watch this interview about the aftercare of trafficked women and children.
