There is a lady I know who manages a homeless shelter. She and her team through the two-year shutdown increased the number of hot meals served from three days a week to seven. And this is just a fraction of what she does for this challenging and vulnerable population of societal outcasts.
When asked what keeps her going every day, often for little in return, she says, “We’re just lovin like God.”
Three words.
Lovin like God.
Many do great altruistic appearing things as a way of loving FOR God.
They do it for some future reward or because it is some sort of proof of personal goodness intended to impress others.
It is as if they think God will be surprised and impressed with how good we good people are.
Lovin LIKE God is the exact opposite.
It is a response to the incredible belief that God is the great lover.
She believes there is no one as good and as loving as he is — in spite of the piles of complaints leveled at him from multitudes of confused and hurting people, many of whom are not homeless and are, in fact, rolling in abundance.
She believes no one cares more about suffering than God does and he proved it when he allowed his own son to die on a cross.
What to some was a heartless act was actually an intentional one to liberate mankind from its own self-destructive ways. And yet, because it was an act of pure love, it came as a gift offered without strings attached. He allows us to accept or reject it; accept or reject him.
So, for my friend, God’s lovin is her inspiration to do things to bless others, even when none of us deserve it and never will.
