I Have This Bad Habit
When someone disappoints my expectations or does not affirm me in some way, my mind immediately goes to fear. What do they think about me? What have I done wrong?
Fortunately, I have learned a few things about this reflexive emotional response that have helped me quickly regain my footing.
1. My imagination is never right. It is terribly unreliable.
2. The fact of the matter is they are usually not thinking about me much at all. They are thinking things like I am thinking. They might even be worried about what I think about them.
3. Good friends aren’t flighty.
4. Talking directly without accusations quickly resolves concerns.
