If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair.
C.S. Lewis
I love both the quote and that I received it from one of my daughters.
Truth brings comfort in the end.
Why is this true?
The answer is found not just in what is true but who is true. And the one who is true is worthy of trust (trustworthy).
But seek comfort or pleasure as the primary goal and the result is neither.
Why is this the case?
Because relationships are hard work at times. Sometimes they require loss of sleep and putting the needs of others above one’s own.
Living relationally is not easy but a good habit to form because it brings about many benefits, not the least of these being a healthier way of thinking about life, problems, and truth.
On the other hand, seeking pleasure is isolating behavior. It is the path down which all addictions lie.
This was much more understandable than Aristotle's treatise on Happiness in his book Nicomachean Ethics. Thank you.
