Don’t Live By Mistake
Regrets will only get you so far. If this describes you, you need to find a better way to live.
It’s okay to make mistakes. In fact no skills can be developed unless we do — frequently. No muscle memory materializes instantly.
The problem comes when we entertain the idea that we made mistakes in our major or macro life choices, especially as they involve relationships. Things started out well and then they soured. If we hadn’t gone down that path in the first place perhaps we would have been better off. . .
I’m not saying we don’t make mistakes in all aspects of living. It is a no-brainer that we do. What I am getting at is the constant pining for wishing we had a different past.
This melancholy mentality promotes heartache. It robs us of both joy and the resolve to fix the mistakes we are making right now.
Perhaps a different perspective is what we most need when we start believing we are without hope for being able to correct course.
What if we began to acknowledge that nothing in our lives is by mistake, even mistakes?
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
James 1:2-4 (ESV)
God has a plan for our lives and it includes growing us up and developing patience, kindness, goodness, and self control. How do these come about?
Through boatloads of mistakes.
